The Colcom Foundation was created by Cordelia S. May in 1996 to protect the world
from the many threats facing it. While her main concerns were overpopulation
and environmental destruction, many more threats can and will bring about the
fall of civilization if we let them.

That being the case, Colcom Foundation is rising to the
occasion
to protect our planet from eminent disasters.

1.Ocean Acidification

Oceans are becoming more acidic and it’s wreaking havoc on the sea life that makes up
a huge chunk of our food chain. This is happening because the oceans are
absorbing more CO2 these days and it’s changing the pH. If something isn’t done
about this, then commercial fishing could be in danger which could severely
impact the world’s food supplies.

2.Overpopulation

The world has a limited number of resources and can support an infinitely growing
population. This problem is compounded by the fact that the larger the
population gets, the faster it reproduces. If left unchecked, the lack of
resources will cause society to collapse into war and chaos.

3. Loss of Bio-Diversity

The Colcom Foundation knows that one of the biggest consequences of environmental destruction is the loss biodiversity.
This is a problem because ecosystems are very fragile and when there is a lack
of bio-diversity they can become unbalanced. This can lead to extinctions as
well as the overpopulation of certain species.

4.Loss of Green Spaces

Extensive urbanization is robbing people of their access to green spaces. This has been
having a huge negative impact on the mental and physical health of many
citizens around the world. Additionally, this is another contributor to the
loss of biodiversity that we just went over.

5. Climate Change

The main problem with climate change these days is that it’s happening faster than
it ever has before. This means that plants, animals, and ecosystems do not have
time to adapt to these changes. We’re living through the Earth’s Sixth Mass Extinction right now.
The Colcom Foundation knows that if something isn’t done, humanity could find
themselves in a crisis like never before.
