A recent update on Edumentors, the UK-based online tutoring platform, has drawn renewed attention to one of its backers, Yazan Al Homsi. The company confirmed it has crossed $4 million in cumulative sales while posting 1.8x year-over-year revenue growth, a milestone outlined in coverage from Business Insider Africa that also detailed the company’s expanding footprint across the UK tutoring market.

Edumentors connects students with tutors from leading UK universities, including Cambridge and Oxford, and has now facilitated more than 200,000 hours of tutoring around the world. The platform recently completed the Malta EdTech Accelerator programme and has since introduced four new AI-powered tools intended to support tutors, simplify onboarding, and improve how learning is structured for individual students, changes the company says are already showing up clearly in engagement numbers.

Al Homsi, who is based in Dubai, has built a reputation as a venture capitalist with a strong finance pedigree. He earned a finance degree from McGill University and holds the CFA designation, and prior to his investing career he held senior positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers across the Middle East and North Africa region. He currently leads Catalyst Wire and Founders Round Capital as principal, and his broader portfolio spans companies like Aduro Clean Technologies and Rocket Doctor AI.

Commenting on the company’s trajectory, observers close to the deal noted that Edumentors “has built a credible and disciplined business,” pointing to the team’s focus on improving outcomes as the kind of execution that earns long-term market position. With EdTech deal volume rising from 915 to 1,153 transactions globally in 2024 and total sector funding climbing from $5.6 billion to $6.3 billion, Al Homsi’s continued involvement with Edumentors reflects a broader investor appetite for platforms that pair AI with proven educational outcomes.
